WHAT WE'RE UP TO:
LIFE Camp just took a monumental step forward in the fight against gun violence by hosting the Inaugural Practicum for the University of Chicago's Community Violence Intervention Leadership Academy (CVILA). As a leading gun violence prevention organization in New York City, we were honored to collaborate with the Black & Brown Peace Consortium on this groundbreaking initiative.
WHY THIS WORK IS VITAL:
The week-long immersive training brought together 31 emerging senior and executive leaders from 21 cities across the nation, all dedicated to combating the impact of gun violence. The Practicum unfolded at the NYPD Training Academy in College Point, NY, a state-of-the-art facility that set the stage for interactive simulations and engaging dialogue.
Led by our visionary CEO and Co-Founder, Erica Ford, who co-chaired the national steering committee of the Black & Brown Peace Coalition, the Practicum focused on "Community Wellness: Building and Restoring Healthy Communities through a Systems-Based Approach to Violence as a Public Health Issue.”
It provided a hands-on practical learning experience through simulations and fieldwork, emphasizing the crucial nexus of community wellness and public safety.
